In this article, you’ll be inspired by our 2 days in Lisbon itinerary. We’ve put together an agenda full of useful tips and information for you to take advantage of the city’s main tourist attractions.

First day in Lisbon

On your first morning in Lisbon, you can visit Belém, a very famous area of the city that is a little far from the center (about 30 minutes by public transport). There you’ll find the famous Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, the Jerónimos Monastery and the incredible traditional pastries of Belem. So make sure you stop by and sample these delights.

You can even do the whole route on foot, as these sights are very close to each other. But you’ll have to set aside a considerable amount of time to visit them, especially the monastery, which is huge and very beautiful.

Returning to the center of Lisbon, you can continue the day strolling around the Parque das Nações area, which is another idea of what to do in this 2 days in Lisbon itinerary. Built in 1998 for the great World Expo, it has left a beautiful, modern and touristic legacy for the city.

There, you’ll find Lisbon’s oceanarium, the cable car and other smaller tourist attractions. Among them is the beautiful Gare de Oriente Station and, opposite it, the Vasco da Gama Shopping Mall, with its impressive architecture symbolizing a cruise ship.

Just behind the shopping center, you’ll find the Tagus River and the famous Vasco da Gama Bridge and Vasco da Gama Tower, as well as several dining options.

Second day in Lisbon

Following this 2 days in Lisbon itinerary, our tip to start this second day journey is to go to Avenida da Liberdade. When you arrive at Restauradores Square, you’ll see a large obelisk that pays homage to Portugal’s liberation from Spanish rule.

Nearby you can take a tour promoted by the Elevador da Glória, which goes up the hill that connects Baixa to Bairro Alto. This elevator will make it easier for you to climb the hill and, once at the top, you’ll find yourself in Bairro Alto, a district full of bars, restaurants and interesting stores.

In the afternoon, we recommend that you stay in the center, walking along Rua Augusta. You’ll reach the city’s main arch and come out at Praça do Comércio, a beautiful postcard of the city. This area has several options for lunch.

Nearby, don’t miss the Sé de Lisboa, which is next to Praça do Comércio, and the Castelo de São Jorge, which, as well as being one of the best preserved medieval buildings in Europe, has incredible views of the city. And to round off these 2 days in Lisbon itinerary, if you’re not too tired, end the day in the Cais do Sodré area, which has a lively nightlife.
