Check out the 2 days in Porto itinerary that we’ve planned especially for you. With 42 hours available in the city, you can see some fantastic sights.

What to do on your first day in Porto?

To start this 2 days in Porto itinerary, an essential tip that we always give to those who want to make the most of their new destination is to get up early. One of the advantages of this city is that most of its attractions are located in the same area, which allows you to see a lot without wasting time getting around.

So, start your first day tour by walking around the incredible Ribeira area, whose cultural scene is vibrant and intense: full of bars, restaurants and beautiful old houses. We recommend that you visit the D. Luís I Bridge, the great symbol of the region and the link between the cities of Porto and Gaia. From the top of this bridge you’ll have a beautiful view.

On the other side of the river, just outside the city of Vila Nova de Gaia, you’ll find the Port Wine Cellars. Take the opportunity to have lunch there first and visit the wine tasting rooms in the afternoon. And in the evening, you can dine there, as Porto has many restaurants right on the banks of the River Douro. This adds charm to your dinner and provides a beautiful view.

Important tip: To make the most of your trip is to stay in the best region. If you want, see our article here that explains the best area, hotels and how to save a lot on accommodation.

What to do on your second day in Porto?

On this second day, you can take the opportunity to stroll around Porto’s historic center. This region is very rich in monuments, churches and places full of culture and history. Walk around Terreiro da Sé, where you’ll find Porto Cathedral, one of Portugal’s oldest monuments.

Once you’ve done that, continue strolling through Praça de Almeida Garret, where you’ll find São Bento station, which is known for its decorative tiles that tell the story of kings and what happened in the north of Portugal.

Right next door is Praça da Liberdade, where the monument of Dom Pedro I on horseback is located. Stroll along Av. dos Aliados, one of the city’s most important avenues and the place where various events and celebrations take place, such as the end-of-year parties.

Av. dos Aliados is also home to Porto’s City Hall, as well as the Igreja da Trindade, a beautiful church built in the 19th century.

For lunch, stay in the city center and choose one of the many restaurants or tascas (pubs). After your meal, burn off the calories by climbing up to the Clérigos Tower, but be prepared: there are more than 250 steps. The effort, however, is well worth it, as the 360º view of the city is breathtaking.

Next, head to Rua das Carmelitas, where you’ll find the well-known and beautiful Lello bookshop. Finally, head to Rua D. Manuel II, a very green area with the famous Jardim do Palácio de Cristal.
