1st day in Italy: Rome
Start exploring Italy in Rome, its capital. Known as the Eternal City, it breathes history around every corner. One of the best things to do in Rome is to visit the iconic Colosseum, which was built in 72 AD and functioned as an arena for fights between gladiators and ferocious animals. It’s also worth going to the nearby Roman Forum, where every stone tells an ancient story.
For lunch, enjoy authentic Italian cuisine in a local trattoria. Try fresh pasta accompanied by a good wine. Then head to Rome’s other sights. The city has lovely squares such as Piazza di Spagna, with 135 steps leading up to the Trinità dei Monte church, and Piazza Venezia, with the Vittoriano monument and museum. Likewise, the famous Trevi Fountain is a must-see.
Another interesting attraction is Rome’s Pantheon, built in honor of the Roman gods and in perfect condition. For dinner, our tip is to opt for a restaurant with a terrace for a beautiful view. Savor fresh seafood dishes or an authentic pizza while enjoying the illuminated cityscape.

2nd day in Italy: Vatican City
On your second day in Italy, head to the Vatican. This city-state is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church, where you’ll find many architectural and artistic treasures. One of them is the Sistine Chapel, the Pope’s official residence, located in the Apostolic Palace. You can also visit the Vatican Museums, a complex of small but very interesting museums.
Another option is to visit the famous St. Peter’s Basilica, located in the square of the same name. Admission is free, but you should pay attention to the dress code, as you are not allowed to enter the church in short clothes or with your shoulders showing. You can also visit the Gallery of Chandeliers and the Gallery of Geographical Maps, with a complete collection and many curious elements.
In the evening, return to enjoy more of Rome’s nightlife. You can dine in one of its fine restaurants, dance in a club or take a night tour. A tour of the Colosseum is available at night and offers a totally unique view of the place.
Third day in Italy: Florence
Early the next morning, head to Florence, considered to be Italy’s Renaissance jewel. This city is just over 270 km from Rome and offers unique landscapes as well as many sensational attractions.
At first, take a stroll around Piazza del Duomo, one of the most famous squares in the whole country and one of the best things to do in Florence. There you’ll find Florence Cathedral. From the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the area. In this square, you can also visit the Baptistery of St. John and the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo.
Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing lunch in the Boboli Gardens and take the opportunity to stroll through this enchanting place. Don’t miss its terraces and outdoor sculptures. In the afternoon, take a pleasant stroll along the banks of the River Arno and stop to visit the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Next, explore the Galleria degli Uffizi, home to one of the most important collections of Renaissance art. Then cross the famous Ponte Vecchio, lined with jewelry and craft stores. Finally, watch a spectacular sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo. From there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Florence and the River Arno as the sun sets over the horizon.
