To begin with, an essential tip that we always give to anyone who wants to make the most of a tourist city is to get up early. So make sure you visit the city center, passing by Plaça Catalunya and following La Rambla, one of Barcelona’s most popular avenues.
Strolling along it, you’ll see a statue of Christopher Columbus, which dates from 1888 and is more than 50 meters high, pointing towards America. A curiosity that few people know is that inside the statue there is an elevator that allows visitors to admire Barcelona from above. What’s more, Las Ramblas is full of stores, which can be a good option for those who want to do a little shopping during their trip.
Around lunchtime, you can enjoy a delicious meal at Mercado La Boquería, one of the city’s first municipal markets. There you’ll find fruit stalls, typical foods and delicious, inexpensive natural juices.
Just around the corner, you’ll also find the Gothic Quarter and, on the other side, El Raval. The Gothic Quarter is rich in Barcelona’s history and culture, as well as being the oldest part of the city. There you’ll find incredible sights, including Barcelona Cathedral, the Picasso Museum and the Barcelona History Museum.
Another tip for places to visit in the city is the Eixample district, where Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia Temple is located. The building is the work of the famous architect Antoni Gaudí and is one of the most important tourist attractions in all of Barcelona.
Still on the circuit of Gaudí’s works, we recommend that you take a bus to Parc Güell. This is Barcelona’s main park and one of the city’s postcards. Its construction took around 14 years, beginning in 1900, by the famous architect Antoni Gaudí, who lived there with his family from 1906 to 1926.
