What to do on your first day in Madrid?
Our top tip for getting your trip off to a good start is to get up early, so you can visit more places and enjoy everything to the full, without rushing. So, head to your first tourist attraction on this tour: Puerta del Sol.
The Puerta del Sol square is considered to be Spain’s kilometer zero, where all the country’s main roads start. There you’ll find El Oso y el Madroño, a sculpture from the mid-20th century and one of the city’s most famous sights.
Then pay a visit to the nearby Royal Palace, the official residence of the Spanish royal family. Also known as the Palacio del Oriente, Madrid’s Royal Palace is the largest in Europe. It was built in 1738 and is still the official residence of the King of Spain, although it is only used for gala ceremonies and official receptions.
Next, a super cool place to visit in Spain’s capital is Madrid’s Almudena Cathedral, a Catholic church built in 1883. This monument is dedicated to the Virgin of Almudena and, although it was proposed by King Charles I in 1518, it was not built until 1883.
Next, a good idea is to visit the Mercado San Miguel, which is just next door, and have lunch there too! This is a public market where you can find Spanish delicacies and gourmet products.
What to do on your second day in Madrid?
On your second day in the city, there’s nothing better than visiting Madrid’s museums to learn more about the history and culture of the Spanish capital. Among the most renowned are the Prado Museum, the Thyssen Museum and the Reina Sofia Art Museum.
Very close to the Thyssen Museum is the Cibeles Palace, where if you climb to the top of the building you’ll have an incredible view of Madrid. At lunchtime, eat in one of the city’s incredible restaurants and relax in the iconic Retiro Park, which is a real oasis for Madrid residents and tourists alike. In the evening, you can enjoy a wonderful Flamenco show.
What to do on your third day in Madrid?
For this last day in the city, a good tip is to visit the incredible Santiago Bernabéu stadium, which is owned by the Real Madrid club and was built in 1947 in the Spanish capital. Its name is a tribute to the club’s president from 1943 to 1978. A landmark in the world of soccer, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium was the venue for the 1982 World Cup final, the 1964 European Championship final and the 2018 Copa Libertadores.
And to say goodbye to this enchanting city, we recommend you visit the Puerta de Alcalá. The monument was built in 1778 on the orders of King Charles III to serve as the city’s gateway.
