When does it snow in Italy?

Before looking at which cities you can enjoy snow in Italy, it’s important to know when you can see it. Winter in Italy lasts from December 21 to March 20, but the snow season usually lasts from December to February every year.

Rome

The Italian capital is transformed into an enchanting scene during the winter. Although not as constant, it can snow a few days a year in Rome. Close to Rome, there is another area that is not to be missed on winter days: Monte Livata. It is located inside a natural park, just over 84 km away. There is a complete amusement park on site, with ski slopes, sleigh rides and other attractions.

There are two options for getting from Rome to Monte Livata:

• With a rental car, which takes about 1h15 and is the most suitable. It offers greater comfort and the freedom to make your own schedule.
• By metro. For the latter, go to Ponte Mammolo station and take the Cotral bus called ROMA-SUBIACO. When you get off at Subiaco, take another bus to Livata. The journey takes approximately 3 hours.

Florence

In Florence, snow also only appears from time to time, usually just once a year. But when it does fall, it leaves the city with a unique beauty. The monuments and squares are beautiful, so it’s worth including in your itinerary the main tourist attractions, which are emptier in winter. Also, 90 km from Florence is the Italian commune of Abetone, with a great ski resort.

Venice

In Venice, frost is more common than snow, especially between December and March. Even so, on some days of the year the city may be covered in white, which makes it even more charming. Another good option is to go to the Italian municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo, about 158 km away, where there is a famous and fun ski resort.

Verona

A little further north in Italy is Verona, the famous city of Romeo and Juliet. It becomes even more romantic when the snow covers its historic streets, making it ideal for a couple’s trip in winter. Take the opportunity to visit the sites that inspired Shakespeare, such as Juliet’s House, and then warm up in one of the cozy local restaurants.

Turin
