See this 1 day in Porto itinerary. Full of tourist attractions, it’s impossible to see everything the city has to offer in just 24 hours. But we’ve prepared this itinerary so you can make the most of your time there.

What to do in one day in Porto?

To start this 1 day in Porto itinerary, an essential tip that we always give to those who want to make the most of their new destination is to get up early. One of the advantages of this city is that most of its attractions are located in the same area, which allows you to see a lot without wasting time getting around.

That’s why the first tourist attraction we recommend is the Dom Luís I Bridge, the great symbol of the city, which links the cities of Porto and Gaia. From the top of this bridge you’ll have a beautiful view of the entire Ribeira region.

Next, head to the shores of Gaia, where the famous Port wine is made. If you have time, we recommend that you choose a cellar in the city and take a tour of it, as the prices are not very expensive and there is always a wine tasting.

In the afternoon, after the tasting, take a stroll along the Ribeira, where there are several typical souvenir shops. From there, right at the foot of the Dom Luís I Bridge, you can take a funicular to the upper part of the city.

Important tip: To make the most of your trip is to stay in the best region. If you want, see our article here that explains the best area, hotels and how to save a lot on accommodation.

From there you’ll reach the Batalha neighborhood, where you’ll find Praça da Batalha, which was the scene of a great war between the Saracens of Almançor and the inhabitants of Porto.

As you walk down Rua Saraiva de Carvalho, you’ll come to Porto Cathedral, one of the city’s historic monuments. Something super cool about this place is that the cathedral stands on a high point in the city, with an incredible view that allows you to admire the entire historic center.

Nearby, you’ll see São Bento Station, another incredible place that stands out for its beautiful tiles. Right next to the station is Praça da Liberdade, which leads to Avenida dos Aliados, where you can stop for a snack, such as the city’s traditional francesinhas or hot dogs.

Afterwards, head to the famous Clérigos Tower, which, despite its 75m height and 240 steps, has a fantastic view. If you have time, you can also visit the wonderful Lello Bookshop, one of the best known in the world and where the Harry Potter Tour passes.
